The IVCC has been established with two distinct objectives, to produce improved insecticides and formulations and to provide improved tools for vector control decision making processes that will be used at community levels in disease endemic countries to reduce disease transmission.
We believe that this approach will succeed where others have failed because both strategies will be deployed simultaneously. The effective implementation of this range of vector control tools and products will achieve a major reduction in disease vector populations, transmission of vector borne diseases and more importantly a reduction in the number of deaths from vector borne diseases.
Vector control alone can reduce malaria transmission in highly endemic areas by up to fifty percent, but in combination with improved drugs and vaccines there is the potential to move towards local and regional elimination of one or more vector borne diseases.
