Jen Armistead, PhD, MPH, MS is a global malaria and vector control expert with over 17 years of experience spanning malaria transmission biology, medical entomology, and global malaria policy and strategy. Her work bridges laboratory and field research, operational program implementation, and global technical guidance, enabling her to bring both deep scientific expertise and practical insight into the realities of malaria control programs.
Dr. Armistead previously served in senior technical leadership roles with the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI/USAID), including as Vector Monitoring and Control Team Lead. In this role she helped shape global malaria strategy and provided technical guidance on vector surveillance, insecticide resistance monitoring, and vector control interventions across more than 30 malaria-endemic countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. Her work focused on translating scientific evidence into policy and programmatic decisions, including the evaluation, introduction, and scale-up of new vector control tools and strategies.
Earlier in her career, she conducted malaria transmission research across Plasmodium falciparum, vivax, and knowlesi at leading institutions including the National Institutes of Health, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, and the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute. She currently works as an independent consultant supporting global health organizations on malaria strategy, surveillance, and vector control.
