Francisco da Conceição Mário Saute

Francisco da Conceição Mário Saute is a Board Trustee at IVCC. He is Director General of the Manhica Health Research Centre in Mozambique and a member of the EDCTP General Assembly. A medical doctor by training, Francisco has more than 30 years’ experience in communicable diseases, with expertise in malaria surveillance, epidemiological research, programme management and scientific leadership.

Francisco has held several senior leadership positions in malaria control and global health. He served as Director of Mozambique’s National Malaria Control Programme and Head of the Communicable Disease Division at the Ministry of Health before spending seven years as Resident Advisor for the US President’s Malaria Initiative in Angola and Rwanda. He subsequently led a malaria elimination initiative in southern Mozambique while also serving as Deputy Director for Science at the Manhica Health Research Centre. In 2021, he was appointed Director General of the Centre. Francisco holds a PhD in Malaria Epidemiology, an MSc in Communicable Disease Epidemiology and is a qualified Medical Doctor.
