Steve graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in engineering science. He qualified as a Chartered Engineer and worked for Unilever for 17years in a variety of technical, and latterly, general management roles. These included project engineer/manager, global technical consultant and manager of a research group.

Steve then moved into the higher education sector and spent 18 years as a senior leader and manager at the Universities of Manchester and Liverpool. He was extensively involved with university strategic planning and governance as well as designing, optimising and managing a range of professional services functions.

He was also the University of Liverpool’s nominate non-executive director of one of an NHS Trust in the northwest of England. He held the roles of Vice Chair and Senior Independent Director.

Steve retired from the University of Liverpool in 2020 and since then has done consultancy work in the HE sector and has been Vice Chair and a member of the Board of Trustees for Association of Higher Education Professionals.

He is currently volunteering for the Citizens Advice charity in Liverpool providing free, impartial advice on a range of issues to local citizens.
