Earlier this week, IVCC joined SC Johnson and the End Malaria Council Kenya to participate in a high-level Malaria Roundtable in Nairobi, bringing together over 70 regulators, policymakers, entomological experts, and civil society representatives from over 15 African countries.
The event focused on the adoption, registration, and deployment of GuardianTM, SC Johnson’s breakthrough spatial emanator. Backed by a World Health Organization policy recommendation and prequalification listing, Guardian is designed to complement existing tools, such as insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS), and to help close coverage gaps in malaria prevention.
Delegates discussed opportunities to scale up spatial emanators rapidly across malaria-endemic countries, including exploring public-private partnerships, retail distribution models, and strategies for maximizing affordability. SC Johnson highlighted their commitment to producing Guardian at no profit, under their “Healthier World Initiative,” and emphasized that the Kenya-based manufacturing facility has been designed to be both user- and environmentally friendly.
The roundtable also highlighted the importance of ongoing data collection to define optimal use cases and identify new funding and implementation partners. Participants underscored the critical role of collaboration between science, policy, and industry in accelerating access to innovative tools and driving progress toward malaria elimination.
IVCC is proud to contribute to these collective efforts, working alongside SC Johnson, the End Malaria Council Kenya, and a broad range of stakeholders to help ensure life-saving innovations reach communities most at risk.
