IVCC attends launch of UCSF Centre for Malaria and Vector-Borne Diseases

On Monday, IVCC attended the launch of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Centre for Malaria and Vector-Borne Diseases.

The new centre will bring together world-leading researchers and partners to reduce the burden of malaria and other vector-borne diseases through research, innovation, global partnerships, and training the next generation of scientists and public health leaders. Its focus spans malaria, arboviral diseases, Chagas, leishmaniasis, onchocerciasis, and schistosomiasis. Research will range from parasitology, drug and insecticide discovery, and resistance monitoring, to diagnostics, surveillance, and health systems.

IVCC CEO Justin McBeath participated in a panel discussion on private sector innovation and partnership, highlighting IVCC’s unique expertise in developing new vector control solutions. He contributed IVCC’s perspective on building collaborative frameworks with industry for impactful malaria research, alongside colleagues from Novartis and Verily.

The event was hosted by our long-standing collaborator, Allison Tatarsky, Director of the Malaria Elimination Initiative at UCSF.
