To mark World Malaria Day 2025, IVCC joined global partners in a range of activities highlighting the urgent need to accelerate progress against malaria. This year’s theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite” set by the RBM Partnership to End Malaria and the World Health Organization (WHO), resonated strongly with IVCC’s mission to drive equitable access to innovative vector control tools.
From advocacy in the UK Parliament to a global forum in San Francisco, and from collaborative campaigns to contributions in key publications, IVCC helped spotlight the urgent need for continued innovation, investment, and partnership in the malaria fight.
Amplifying the Message Through Global Social Campaigns
We took part in a coordinated World Malaria Day social media campaign alongside partners Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) and PATH, focusing on the challenges and solutions shaping the future of malaria control. Together, we released three social media cards and accompanying messages, shared widely across our channels and partner networks, drawing attention to the threat of resistance and the promise of next-generation tools.
Advocating at the UK Parliament
On 23 April, IVCC participated in a reception at the Houses of Parliament, hosted by Dr Lauren Sullivan MP and organised by Malaria No More UK (MNMUK). The event celebrated British leadership in the fight against malaria and built momentum ahead of two crucial moments for global health financing:
- The Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance replenishment in June
- The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria replenishment this autumn, co-hosted by the UK and South Africa
Attendees reflected on the UK’s pivotal role in scaling up tools such as bed nets, anti-malarials, and vaccines. The event also reinforced the importance of continued support for British-backed research and partnerships to keep progress on track.
Representing IVCC at the Bay Area World Malaria Day Forum
On Friday, April 25, IVCC participated in the Bay Area World Malaria Day Forum, hosted by the Malaria Elimination Initiative at the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences at UCSF’s Mission Bay Campus.
Our Director of Access & Country Engagement, Dave McGuire, joined a panel discussion on ‘Opportunities for Innovation and Partnership for the Malaria Fight’, offering insight into the role of public-private partnerships and IVCC’s work accelerating access to new vector control tools. The forum brought together researchers, policy leaders, and implementing partners to discuss solutions and cross-sector collaboration to achieve elimination.
Contributing to Policy and Impact Reports
We also contributed to two key publications reinforcing the role of UK-supported research and global health leadership:
- “Securing Britain’s Future” – A report from Malaria No More UK detailing how ending malaria strengthens the UK economy, NHS, and life sciences sector. Read the report
- “A Stronger and Safer United Kingdom Through Global Health R&D Investment” – Published by Impact Global Health and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, this report features our New Nets Project (NNP) as a case study in advancing insecticide-treated net innovation. Read the report
